About Sleep Dentistry

Sleep Dentistry enables patients to become drowsy but semiconscious during treatment. Generally, patients are so relaxed they sleep throughout their whole dental treatment. Sleep Dentistry actually begins about an hour prior to your dental treatment.

A sedative is administered to the patient, either IV Sedation (intravenous sedation) or Oral Sedation (tablet sedative), and after a short time the patient will become very relaxed and enter a sleep-like state. During some dental treatments anaesthetic is still administered to the patient.

Sleep Dentistry enables patients who have a fear of the dentist to undergo dental treatment. Most patients, who have utilised Sedation Dentistry during a procedure, have no memory of their treatment or have the perception that it lasted only moments instead of hours.
