Pain Free Dentistry

Saturday, April 10, 2010

Many people have a fear of the dentist, whether it is because of a traumatic experience when a child, or a dental procedure that went wrong years ago Maybe you just hate the sound of drills and tools, especially when they are being used in your mouth. Sedation/Pain free dentistry is the solution to all these problems. Sleep dentistry helps you to feel at ease and comfortable with any dentistry procedure that you may have to undergo.

Now you can simply say goodbye to the fear, anxiety and discomfort you once had to endure during your dentistry procedures. As a result of pain free dentistry, multiple procedures can be finished in one appointment only, as the patient can be asleep or under sedation throughout the whole time without feeling uneasy

Sedation Dentistry comprises of 2 main ways of sedation, IV and nitrous oxide (laughing gas). Nitrous oxide is administered through a mask and you will start to get a feeling of light headedness but you will be completely conscious throughout the whole procedure. IV sedation is administered through a needle and directly into the blood stream. With IV sedation you will be completely asleep and will be constantly monitored throughout the procedure with anaesthetics.

Sedation dentistry forms a situation of sleepiness, peace and relaxation throughout a dental procedure so that you feel little to no pain. The quantity of the dosage differs from each patient and each treatment. Even the most painful procedures such as dental implants can now be controlled through the use of sedation dentistry.

The full process is supervised by the dentist and their technicians, who are experienced with the sedation techniques.
